Explore the immediate surroundings on foot:

Castello di Vezio (20 min walk): Castle complex with an unparalleled view of Lake Como.

Sentiero del Viandante (accessible from the villa in two directions): This hiking trail measures 68 km and runs from Abbadia Lariana in the south to Morbegno in the north. Those wishing to hike a longer section can also return by train.

Villa Monastero (in Varenna) with its botanical garden is an oasis of tranquility right on the lake.

Villa Cipressi (in Varenna), the sophisticated hotel, is lovely for (reasonably priced) dinners, with terraced gardens that extend to the shore.

 

Relaxation

Not far from the house is the exclusive Sporting Club Olivedo (Varenna) with a heated swimming pool, whirlpool, solarium, lake access, bar, restaurant, and garden with a children's playground. Tickets can be purchased directly at the club restaurant for €20 per day (children under 10 are free). 4 km from Varenna is the lovely swimming pool at Lido di Bellano (entrance fee €10 per day per person).

 

Sport

In winter, skiers will be in their element. Madesimo is 1 hour 15 minutes north, and the local ski resorts of Piani di Bobbio and Pien della Betulla are only 40-50 minutes away. Furthermore, you can take wonderful day trips in any season, such as a drive through the Alps to the celebrity resort of St. Moritz – the drive takes only 1.5 hours.

In summer, the focus is on water sports, hiking and trekking.

Water sports: Whether windsurfing, kitesurfing (with the famous wind-guaranteed locations Colio, Dervio etc.), canoeing or obtaining a pilot's license with permission to land on water: the range is vast: in Varenna and the immediate surroundings, everyone will find something to enjoy.

Hiking with breathtaking mountain views is, of course, one of the special features of Lake Como. A well-known trail passes directly by the house, and there are tours of varying difficulty in the immediate vicinity: from leisurely strolls to more challenging hikes with elevation gains of over 1,000 meters (see also https://www.komoot.de/guide/636058/wandern-rund-um-perledo ).

For trekking enthusiasts, the hinterland of Perledo offers wonderful tours, even off the beaten track, including passes up to 1,400 meters (see also https://www.komoot.de/discover/Perledo/@46.0183214,9.3002314/tours?map=true&max_distance=5000&sport=touringbicycle ).

 

By ferry or hydrofoil:

Concorsa d'Eleganza: a must for classic car fans

Villa Balbianello: for Star Wars fans

Menaggio, with its pretty beach promenade, can be reached from Varenna in about 20 minutes by ferry.

Bellagio, with its beautiful shops and picturesque staircases, can also be reached by ferry in about 20 minutes.

The regional center of Como (approx. 45 min) is very beautiful, with its pedestrian zones, diverse shopping opportunities, the cathedral, many bars, markets and jazz in the evening.

 

By train

Milan (approx. 1 hour) with its world-famous cathedral and beautiful shopping streets is easily accessible by train.
